The rain seems to have stopped for the afternoon.......Yeah!

What do you do with a clay pot that broke?  You make it a flower garden focal point!  This bed is a new bed that we have just started to plant flowers in.  Because we have had so much rain, I don't know if the flowers will come out of it or not.  Hard to see, but there are some there.  The Lantana, my daughter gave me for Mother's Day.  There is one rogue begonia in the point and a few others scattered around the bird bath.  We will have to wait to see if any of the others will make it or not.

How are your flower beds doing this year?  Share your pictures!  I would love to see them!

Quilt of Valor.....

Progressing on the Quilt of Valor that I am currently working on.  This part is all put together, but it's not quite large enough to meet minimum requirements.  So.....I am thinking how to add borders onto it to make it a little bit larger.  I am thinking of a 3-1/2" dark blue border, then maybe a 1" beige border to finish the top off.  For the binding I am going to barber pole the blue and white fabric.  I think that will make a beautiful finish to the quilt.

Before I can work more on this quilt top, though, Jeff just took 3 Quilts of Valor off the long arm and they are ready for me to bind them.  So I will work on them in order to get them back to the toppers so that she can schedule the awarding of those.  I think they are going to be awarded in July to some very deserving Veterans.

If you have an opportunity to work with the Quilt of Valor Foundation, I highly recommend it.  Very deserving Veterans that have served our country are receiving these quilts.

Happy quilting!

A new addition...."Bette"

I just love this vintage Singer Fashion Mate 258 machine that I found at a second hand store that I ventured into the other day.  Isn't it gorgeous in it's green?  It weighs a ton, well, ok maybe 35 pounds, but seems very heavy to me when I was toting it up the stairs to find a home for it in my sewing studio.  A little cleaning, a little oiling and she was good to go.  Sewing, that is.  She sews like a dream and I found several attachments and specialty feet on the internet to use with her.  I think I'll call her Bette, after my best friend.  Yes, that's fitting of a beauty like her.  So glad I was there to rescue her from whatever fate she would have found.

I will need to actually get that table in my sewing studio cleaned off of rogue fabric pieces and such that has found it's way to it so that "Bette" will have her rightful place to be used any time I wish to use her. What a great addition to my sewing studio she will make.

What is your most favorite machine to sew on?

Share with me anytime.  Welcome!

Happy Memorial Day! Thank you Veterans!

Yesterday, I continued to work on a Quilt of Valor top that I started on Friday by using up scraps of red, white and blue.  I added a little bit of off white or ecru to make the 9-patch squares on point.  The QOV panel in the center started it off.

While I didn't get it finished on Monday, I am almost finished with it and then it will be ready to go on the long arm for quilting (by a vet himself).

After many re-thinks about the layout, I finally decided on the one to the right below.  I will have to put a measuring tape to it one more time to be sure it is large enough to meet the standards for QOV's, but I think it is close.

What a wonderful thing to work on and very appropriate for the Memorial Day weekend all while thinking about the veterans that have sacrificed much to keep us living with the freedom that we enjoy each and every day.

I say "Thank You" to our veterans!
This was a mini quilt that I began the weekend with.
Can you say, "Tiny 9-patches"?  These are all finished at 1".

I can say that I never thought I would ever make a small quilt, let alone a full sized quilt using 1" finished squares......ever!  But I can say that it has been fun and a lot of piecing work.
To finish off my day's blog......

The lilies in my flower garden are beginning to bloom.  This day only the deep pink ones were blooming.  Today the yellow ones are as well, but I didn't get a picture of them yet.

I hope all are doing well today and have an awesome rest of your week!

Mini 9-patches

Yesterday and Friday I have been working on scrappy 9-patches with half square triangles around them to make the 9-patch on point.

Working with red, white and blue fabrics help to celebrate the Memorial Day weekend and thoughts for the men and women who help to keep our country free.  They have sacrificed much in order to maintain our freedom and I Thank all of you!

I also Thank our men and women in our cities that help to protect us, Policemen and Firemen as well.  Many of them give their lives to help protect us.

Thank you!

Hello Monday!

Good Day Monday!
I spent quite a bit of time in the sewing studio over the weekend.  Some of that time was spent rearranging a closet, folding, sorting and organizing some of my fabric collection.  It's funny how you pick up a fabric and think, "I forgot I had this one."

This is a mini quilt that I had quilted.  My first.  Didn't it turn out great?
Then onto finishing a travel bag.  I love the colors.  The inside is the floral that is on that front pocket.  I am going to put it in the wash to see how it will fair.  I really want it to be washable, but haven't gotten the courage up to stick it in the wash yet.  Maybe tomorrow.

I worked up an upcycled project.  This is a market tote made from old blue jeans.  I added a cute inner lining with colored dots.  You can see it in the straps.  Also added a cute flower embroidered to the front.  Great for toting to the market for those little items you need to pick up.

Then for a lazy Sunday afternoon, I picked up my hexie project.  Looks like I am a little more than half way around that cream border (if that is where I stop).  Hoping to do some more on it tomorrow.  My partner has a medical procedure that I will be taking him to and waiting to drive him back home.  Just the kind of time for working on my hexie project.

What did you work on over the weekend?  I would love for you to share.
Have a wonderful week!

I promised pictures when more of the iris were in bloom.  This was taken yesterday in the beautiful sunshine in the back yard.  Aren't they gorgeous?

No quilting getting done today......

Today is the day for the Jenks City Wide Garage Sale.

We, of course, have stuff that we no longer use and no longer need that is taking up space in our house, garage and shed.  Therefore, we are participating in the city wide garage sale.

Lots of good stuff that needs to find a new home for someone new to cherish and use it now.

Tomorrow, If
we survive, we will get back to the quilting.

I do have a very nice Brother starter sewing machine that I no longer need that would be great for someone that just needs one to cart around to classes or sewing days.  $25  Let me know if you are the person that just really needs this and it's yours.

Have a wonderful and pleasant sewing day today!

A beautiful day today

My view from number 4 fairway at Forrest Ridge Golf Course.  It's been a beautiful day for the HBA golf tournament.
No one has hit the window yet for a $500 cash prize, but 2 people have fallen in the boundary for a Pella hat or umbrella.  Everyone seems to be having a great time.  Me included.
There was a fawn out early this morning, a very large owl, I've heard a woodpecker and there was a squirrel that scampered across the fairway.
What a gorgeous day!
